Legal Information
I really like the idea of Bali. Is it possible to get married legally in Bali?
There are a number of questions relating to bride, groom, parents of bride & groom and witnesses, which need to be answered. These questions are detailed on our booking application. You will receive this once you have a booking in place and have decided on the preferred date and place for your wedding.
Please see below to give you a basic idea of what is required:
Documentation required for application to the Registrar & Religious Authority:
- Completed booking application forms.
- Photocopy of details page of passports.
- Photocopy of birth certificates.
- Photocopy of Divorce or Death certificate if either party previously married.
- 6 X photographs approx. passport sized (4x6cm) but taken horizontally of bride & groom together, head & shoulders only and looking straight ahead. The groom is required to wear a collar & sleeves and the bride may not have her shoulders exposed for these photographs. Make these photographs as good as possible because they will be attached to your wedding certificates.
- Photocopy of details page of passports of your two witnesses
- Certificate of No Impediment from Consulate in Bali (see below for Australian procedures).
Certificate of No Impediment
Two Australian Citizens or Permanent Australian Residents marrying each other or an Australian Citizen, whether they are marrying a Permanent Resident of Australia or not, may obtain this document from the Australian Consulate-General in Bali. It is necessary to apply in person after arriving and is generally issued on the spot for a fee (currently) of AUD$110.00 TO BE PAID IN RUPIAH (cash) at the time of application. Couples will need to show original passports, Divorce Decree or Death Certificate if previously married and sign a Statutory Declaration regarding their marital status.
Note: Australian Permanent Residency does not apply to New Zealand passport holders, who must obtain their Certificate of No Impediment through the New Zealand authorities with entirely different procedures. Please let us know if you require this information. Additionally, if possible for Protestant couples, we need a copy of Baptism Certificate. If this is not possible please give us a year and place of Baptism e.g. Melbourne, Australia, June 1975.
Important Note about Witnesses: Blood-relatives such as parents, brothers or sisters may not act as a witness to your marriage and if you have no suitable person traveling with you Wedding Destinations will arrange witnesses on your behalf.
