INFORMATION FOR A CIVIL WEDDING
The following documents are required by our representative in Mauritius at least six (6) weeks prior to your arrival in Mauritius for the preliminary arrangements to be completed
- Copy of first six pages of both passports
- Copies of both birth Certificates
- Copy of Decree(s) Absolute if either person is divorced with copy of Marriage Certificate
- Copy of Death Certificate of former spouse if either person is widowed (with a copy of former marriage certificate)
- Copy of name change by Deed Poll (if applicable)
Conditions: If the civil wedding takes place and the bride has been widowed or divorced within 10 months of the divorce decree, or from the date of the death certificate of spouse, she is required to obtain a Mauritian Doctors Certificate of non pregnancy. (The cost of a pregnancy test is at the couple’s own expense and must be issued in Mauritius.)
Documents should be in English or French, otherwise they must be officially translated (at the couple’s expense)
Original copies of all documents MUST be taken to Mauritius.
ADMINISTRATION PROCEDURES
At least three (3) working days before the wedding the bridal couple must go to the Registrar General’s office in Port Louis to complete legal formalities. Original copies of the documentation must be presented and the Affidavit must be sworn before a judge in chambers. It will take at least half a day to complete the formalities.
The couple will be required to stop at the civil status office for the publication of the bans and discuss wedding times with the civil status officer. The bans will be published within 24 hours.
