Koh Samui

Where is Koh Samui

Flooded with sun and coconut plantations, and located only about an hour’s flight from Bangkok, this little gem is becoming harder to bypass when visiting Thailand. Koh Samui is an actual island off the East coast down the southern end of Thailand.

Nitty little facts:

About 50,000 people live locally here; the temperature hardly drops below 30 degrees all year, although December through to March is the driest months and September – November being the wettest. Thai is the local language of course and surprisingly you will find quite a few expats living the good life here.

Sun, Sand, Surf and Nightlife

Central Chaweng Beach is the hot spot if you’re looking for a bit of action; its Koh Samui’s most popular beach and quite long, you won’t find the crowds maddening like in Phuket. Fruit sellers and drink vendors tread that sand waiting on you hand and foot, eager for your dollar. Jet Ski’s and water sport booths ensure you don’t spend all day lying on your backside!

At night, Chaweng breathes life into darkness, night clubs and restaurants come to life. Delicious aromas float along the beach from the many alfresco eateries; music swims through the bubbly crowd and creates an exciting atmosphere. Other beaches include Lamai, Choeng Mon and Mae Nam. All roads are sealed on the island, so beaches are widely accessible. Rent a bicycle, jeep or scooter for the day and visit the different sun spots, all while working off those spring rolls you had for lunch!

Must Do’s

Adrenaline activities such as bungee jumping, shooting ranges and scuba diving are plentiful. Towns with market stalls and little shops give you the chance to pick up a souvenir or two - the options are endless. No trip is complete without a visit to the Big Buddha or have a giggle at Hin Ta Hin Yai rock formations that uncannily resemble male and female genitalia. Just travel further inland and you will be confronted by waterfalls and dense topical rainforests. The island is just so diverse; we could be here forever naming everything to do and see!
